2013 has been a great year for Metal so far. So I thought this would be a good time for a small recap of this year’s Metal albums. Based on the cover artworks of all 2013 releases by five of the biggest record companies (Metal Blade Records, Relapse Records, Nuclear Blast Records, Century Media Records and Roadrunner Records) here’s a nice and simple statistical overview for the Data Metal Nerd in you.

Testament is a Thrash Metal band from Berkeley, CA, USA, formed in 1983. They have released ten studio albums, four live albums, six compilation albums, and six singles to this day. The latest one is pictured above – Dark Roots of Earth released in 2012 (actually yesterday) via Nuclear Blast. It’s an amazing album with an amazing cover. The artwork was created by Eliran Kantor who’s previously worked on Gwar, Atheist or Havok.
Dimmu Borgir is a symphonic Black Metal band from Oslo, Norway, and was founded in 1993. The name Dimmu Borgir is Old Norse (an old language spoken in Skandinavia during the viking age) and can be translated as “Dark Castle”. Also Dimmuborgir is a volcanic formation in Iceland. Dimmu Borgir has released nine albums to this day, five of them pictured in this post due to their love of symmetry.
