Metal and all its sub-genres are highly influenced by historical, religious and mythological motifs. Mythological references can be found in every single Metal style – from Black Metal, Death Metal, Thrash Metal or Grindcore to Heavy Metal, Pagan/Folk Metal or Power Metal. They are integrated in artworks, songs, lyrics and appearances of bands, scenes and labels all over the world.
Ambigrams are one of the most sophisticated and complicated concepts among the numerous symmetric forms. They are a typographical art form that may be read as one or more words not only in its form as presented, but also from another viewpoint, direction, or orientation. The shitload of work to develop a design that works in more than one direction and still being readable is quite admirable.
Here are some really nice Metal examples. At the top of this post you can see an ambigram for American psychedalic Black Metal band Nachtmystium made by VigoAquelarre. Below we’ve got Cradle of Filth by Nagfa, Asyringe by Martin Huckert, Projeria again by Nagfa, and Black Metal by xdarkartistx.
