American Hardcore legends Converge – formed in 1990 in Salem, Massachusetts – have finally released their latest output All We Love We Leave Behind. For me personally the last few weeks were musically the best of the year – new releases by Pig Destroyer, Converge and Anaal Nathrakh. Those three are just brilliant.
Converge – that’s vocalist Jacob Bannon, guitarist Kurt Ballou, bassist Nate Newton and drummer Ben Koller. The band has released eight full length albums, several singles and splits with bands such as Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Dropdead, Napalm Death (with an amazing Entombed cover version), Brutal Truth or Coalesce.
As usual Converge’s vocalist Jacob Bannon did the amazing cover artwork of All We Love We Leave Behind (read more about Bannon in another Symmetal blog post). It depicts a lunar circle, symmetrically arranged and with Bannon’s typical grunge elements.
Bannon about the cover artwork: “The cycles of the moon represent a passing of time, age, wisdom, but at the same time, an unknowingness of the future and a cloudiness of the past.” (source)
One lunar phase cycle (Lunation) is on average 29.530589 days, or 29 days 12 hours 44 minutes and 3 seconds (source). All We Love We Leave Behind is a bit shorter than that (45,6 minutes) but is equally impressive.
